Seminole Sunday Sauce — April 6, 2025: FSU Softball Blanks Florida in Top-10 Showdown

Florida and Florida State will meet just once this regular season on the softball diamond. In what was a top-10 showdown, the contest was dominated by the Seminoles.

No. 8 FSU took down the third-ranked Gators on Wednesday by a score of 4-0. Jahni Kerr provided the offense, belting a 3-run home run in the first and a solo shot in the sixth.

In the circle, starter Ashtyn Danley gave FSU four shutout innings. Annabelle Widra followed by keeping Florida hitless over the final three. The Seminoles have now won seven of the last eight meetings.

The week started for FSU with its third straight ACC sweep as it took down NC State on Sunday, 7-4. The Seminoles erased an early 3-0 deficit with six straight runs. Michaela Edenfield’s 2-run single in the fourth broke a 3-3 tie and put FSU ahead for good. Like Edenfield, Annie Potter had two hits and two RBIs in the win.

FSU did suffer its first ACC loss on Friday night to Virginia, 2-0. A 2-run home run from Virginia’s Jade Hylton accounted for all the offense.

The Seminoles bounced back with an improbable 9-8 comeback on Saturday. FSU trailed 7-1 at one point in the contest.

FSU went ahead to stay with a 4-run sixth inning. Kennedy Harp’s 2-run home run gave FSU its only lead.

Harp went 2-for-4 with the two RBIs and two runs scored. Kerr was 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored in the win. Macee Eaton finished with three RBIs for Virginia in the loss. The teams will wrap up a 3-game series with the rubber game on Sunday.

While it was a winning week on the field, it was announced this week that head coach Lonni Alameda is battling breast cancer. Alameda will fulfill her duties at full capacity while she receives treatment.
