Seminole Sunday Sauce — March 30, 2025: FSU Women’s Hoops’ Season Ends with NCAA Tournament Loss to LSU
A splendid season for Florida State women’s basketball came to an end on Monday as the sixth-seeded Seminoles were defeated by No. 3 seed LSU in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, 101-71.
FSU was able to overcome an early 9-point deficit to take the lead over the 10th-ranked Tigers in the second quarter. Behind Ta’Niya Latson’s 23 first-half points, the Seminoles trailed by just one, 50-49, at halftime.
After outscoring George Mason 31-6 in the fourth quarter in the opening round, the Seminoles were on the wrong end of a 31-6 third quarter against LSU. The Tigers cruised to victory in the second half.
Although she recently entered the transfer portal this week, Latson broke the FSU single-season scoring record during a 30-point effort. Makayla Timpson added 14 points and nine boards to break her own single-season rebounds record. Sydney Bowles added 10 points in the loss.
Mikaylah Williams led LSU with 28 points. Aneesah Morrow added 26 points and 11 rebounds.
With the loss, FSU finishes 24-9 and settles for its first trip to the second round of the NCAA Tournament since 2019. The 24 victories and 13 ACC wins are the most for the Seminoles under third-year head coach Brooke Wyckoff.
