Seminole Sunday Sauce — Jan. 12, 2025: FSU Hoops Continues Domination of Miami
If there was one word to describe the recent men’s basketball series between Florida State and Miami, “domination” might suffice.
On Wednesday night, FSU picked up its 13th win in 14 tries against the rival Hurricanes with an 80-65 win in Coral Gables. Malique Ewen paced the Seminoles with 20 points and 10 rebounds in the victory.
The win served as the first for FSU in a true road game this season. Miami scored the game’s first five points, but by the middle parts of the first half, FSU had seized control.
The Seminoles closed the first half on a 19-7 run and led by as many as 25 points in the second. As a team, FSU shot 50% from the field. In addition to Ewen’s big night, Taylor Bol Bowen and Jamir Watkins added 16 and 10 points, respectively. Daquan Davis tallied nine points and 10 assists. Former FSU swingman Matthew Cleveland led the Hurricanes with 16 points in the loss.
With the victory, FSU evened its ACC record at 2-2. On Saturday at Clemson, however, FSU was defeated, 77-57.
The Tigers shot 13-for-28 from beyond the arc. Ewen led FSU with 15 points and nine rebounds. Clemson’s Chase Hunter led all scorers with 25 points.
For the season, FSU is 11-5 and 2-3 in ACC play. The Seminoles will play at home against Pittsburgh on Wednesday.
