Seminole Sunday Sauce — Jan. 5, 2025: Latson Ties FSU Scoring Record in Rout of Virginia Tech

Florida State women’s basketball’s first ACC road test proved to be a small obstacle. The biggest reason? Ta’Niya Latson.

In Thursday night’s 105-74 rout of Virginia Tech, Latson tied the FSU single-game scoring record with 40 points. Despite an uncharacteristic 2-for-5 night at the free throw line, Latson went 18-for-28 from the field and 2-for-3 from distance.

In addition to tying Natasha Howard’s 11-year-old record, Latson also became just the second women’s college basketball player in five years to finish with 40 points, five assists and five steals in a contest. She added three rebounds and a block.

O’Mariah Gordon tallied 18 points and eight assists for FSU in the victory. Makayla Timpson chipped in with 16 points, six rebounds, four blocks and three steals.

As for Latson, she continues to lead the nation in scoring, averaging 28.2 points per contest. For the season, FSU is 12-2 and 2-0 in ACC play. The Seminoles will try to keep the momentum going when they host Syracuse on Sunday.
