Seminole Sunday Sauce — Oct. 20, 2024: FSU Women’s Hoops Picked Fifth in ACC

With basketball season right around the corner, big things are expected of Florida State women’s hoops. The Seminoles were picked to finish fifth in the ACC this coming season by the conference’s Blue Ribbon panel.

FSU reached the first round of the NCAA Tournament last season before dropping a close one to Alabama. FSU guard Ta’Niya Latson and forward Makayla Timpson were each named preseason All-ACC. Latson averaged a team-best 21.4 points per game while Timpson averaged 14.3 points, 10 rebounds, and 2.6 blocks. FSU was picked to finish behind Notre Dame, NC State, Duke and Louisville.

The FSU men were picked to finish just 15th in the ACC. Duke was picked to win the conference.

Wing Jamir Watkins was named a preseason second-team All-ACC selection. Watkins averaged a team-best 15.6 points and six rebounds last season while shooting 46% from the field.

Both programs will begin their seasons at home on Nov. 4. The FSU women will host North Florida while the men take on Northern Kentucky.
