Seminole Sunday Sauce — Oct. 13, 2024: FSU Women’s Swimming and Diving Opens Season with Three Wins
Florida State’s swimming and diving teams kicked off the season at home this weekend. For the FSU women, the start to the 2024-25 season featured three wins in two days.
On Friday, FSU downed North Florida 239-54 and West Florida 226-73. Against stiffer competition on Saturday, FSU topped Georgia Tech, 162-138.
FSU won 15 of the 16 events it participated in on Friday. Maddy Huggins was among the weekend’s stars for FSU. After winning in the 200-yard freestyle and 400-yard individual medley on Friday, Huggins set a program record for fastest time in the 200-yard breaststroke on Saturday. Huggins also won the 100-yard breaststroke and was part of a relay victory in FSU’s win over Georgia Tech.
Also collecting multiple wins for FSU on Saturday were Edith Jernstedt and Kayleigh Clark. Jernstedt won the 200-yard butterfly and 200-yard individual medley. On the board, Clark won in both the 1- and 3-meter diving events.
While FSU’s women opened with three wins, the men were not so fortunate. FSU fell to Georgia Tech on Saturday in its opener, 174.5-125.5. The Seminoles will remain home to take on very good Georgia teams on Saturday.
