Seminole Sunday Sauce — April 14, 2024: FSU Baseball Dominates rivals During Perfect Week

As was the case on the gridiron, bragging rights in the Sunshine State on the baseball diamond will belong to Florida State.

FSU baseball completed regular season sweeps of rivals Florida and Miami. The seventh-ranked Seminoles finished 3-0 this season against each of its two biggest rivals.

FSU blasted Florida in Tallahassee for its second run-rule win in as many contests with the Gators, 19-4. The Seminoles scored five runs before Florida could record an out in the 7-inning affair.

Marco Dinges’ grand slam was one of five homers for FSU. James Tibbs, Jaxson West, Daniel Cantu and Alex Lodise all left the yard in the victory. Dinges (5) and West (4) combined for nine RBIs. Andrew Armstrong threw three scoreless innings of relief to earn the win.

FSU followed with a 3-game sweep of Miami in Tallahassee with wins on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Max Williams’ 2-run home run in the seventh of Thursday’s game broke a 3-3 tie in a 5-4 victory. Williams went for 2-for-3 with two runs and three RBIs in the win. Jamie Arnold went seven strong innings to earn the win.

FSU clinched the series with an 11-7 win over Miami on Friday. FSU went ahead for good with a third-inning run. Tibbs finished 2-for-3 with a homer and four RBIs. Williams and Cam Smith each finished with two hits and two runs.

The Seminoles completed the sweep on Saturday with a 6-4 win. FSU went ahead for good with three runs in the third on a double by Williams and homer from Smith. Dinges also homered in the win. Smith finished with two hits, two runs scored and three RBIs.

FSU began the week by taking the rubber game of a 3-game series at Boston College on Sunday. The Seminoles trailed 2-1 in the seventh before blowing things open with five runs in the seventh in a 9-2 victory. After Cal Fisher tied the game with a solo homer, a bases-loaded walk to Smith put the Seminoles ahead to stay. Tibbs finished with five RBIs in the victory.

For the season, FSU is now 30-5 and 10-5 in ACC play. The Seminoles will play a midweek home game with Mercer before traveling to Wake Forest for three games.
