Seminole Sunday Sauce — Oct. 1, 2023: FSU Soccer Gets Thrilling Draw vs. No. 1 North Carolina, Shutout Win Over Rival Miami

It wasn’t a perfect week for Florida State soccer, but it was a pretty good one.

FSU salvaged a thrilling draw at No. 1 North Carolina on Sunday before blanking rival Miami on Thursday night, 2-0. Following the 3-3 draw in Chapel Hill, FSU moved up one spot to No. 2 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll.

Against the top-ranked Tar Heels, FSU was on the short end of a 3-2 score as Taylor Huff scurried to get a corner kick in. Her shot was deflected before Amelia Van Zanten knocked home the equalizer off the ricochet with just a single second remaining.

Jordynn Dudley scored the first two goals to give FSU a 2-1 lead before North Carolina answered with a pair of goals in less than a 10-minute stretch, including the go-ahead Kate Faasse in the 86th minute. Huff added two assists while Leilanni Nesbeth contributed another.

On Thursday, Dudley had her second straight multi-goal match with two in the second half in a 2-0 win over rival Miami. Dudley broke a scoreless tie in the 60th minute before putting the Hurricanes away in the 87th. Leah Pais tallied an assist in the win. Despite a scoreless tie for nearly 60 minutes, FSU outshot Miami 22-0 with 11 of those shots coming on frame.

For the season, FSU is now 8-0-1 and tied with North Carolina and Notre Dame atop the ACC standings at 3-0-1. The Seminoles will hit the road this week to take on Louisville.
