Seminole Sunday Sauce — Sept. 24, 2023: FSU Football Stays Perfect with OT Win at Clemson
For the second week in a row, No. 4 Florida State football got all it wanted. For the second week in a row, the Seminoles survived.
FSU needed overtime but knocked off Clemson for the first time since 2014 with a 31-24 road win on Saturday. Jordan Travis’ 24-yard touchdown to Keon Coleman in overtime put FSU ahead for the first time and for good. The Seminoles stopped the Tigers on downs to seal the win.
Clemson appeared as though it may seize control on multiple occasions. Up 24-17 late in the third quarter, the Tigers were driving when FSU linebacker Kalen DeLoach sacked and stripped Clemson quarterback Cade Klubnik. DeLoach was able to scoop the fumble and go 56 yards for the game-tying touchdown. Clemson also missed a go-ahead 29-yard field goal attempt with less than two minutes remaining.
With three total touchdowns, Travis surpassed Chris Weinke’s FSU record for career touchdowns accounted for. Travis finished with 289 yards passing. Coleman caught two touchdowns in the win.
With the victory, FSU moved to 4-0 and 2-0 in ACC play for the second straight year. The Seminoles will be idle next week before hosting Virginia Tech.
