Seminole Sunday Sauce — Oct. 8, 2023: FSU Football Pulls Away From Virginia Tech to Stay Perfect
Early in the second half, things were a bit too close for comfort on Saturday. No. 5 Florida State, however, scored the game’s final 17 points to run away from Virginia Tech at Doak Campbell Stadium on Saturday.
Trey Benson rushed for 200 yards and touchdowns of 62 and 85 yards in the victory. Quarterback Jordan Travis threw a pair of touchdowns to Johnny Wilson, who left the game with an apparent leg injury.
FSU raced to a 22-0 lead, but Virginia Tech refused to go quietly. Bhayshul Tuten rushed for a touchdown late in the first half before returning the second half kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown to cut the lead to 22-17.
FSU racked up 452 yards of offense in the win. Kalen DeLoach led the FSU defense with nine tackles while Jared Verse added two sacks.
