Seminole Sunday Sauce — Sept. 3, 2023: FSU Cross Country Opens with Sweep in Boone

Football fans in Tallahassee will be hoping for a signature win on Sunday night, but for one Florida State program, the year couldn’t have started any better.

FSU cross country opened the year on Friday with a sweep at the Firetower Project Run in Boone, N.C., winning both the men and women’s titles. The FSU men had the top five finishers and six of the top nine.

Abdirizak Ibrahim claimed the individual victory for the Seminoles. He was followed, in order, by teammates David Mullarkey, Zach Leachman, Matthew Neill and Cooper Schroeder.

On the women’s side, FSU claimed victory with five of the top 10 finishers, including winner Alyson Churchill. Anna Sentner was the only other FSU runner to place in the top five with a fifth-place finish.

FSU will be idle this coming week, but a return trip to Boone won’t have to wait long. That’s where the Seminoles will be for the Covered Bridge Open on Sept. 15.
