Seminole Sunday Sauce — Sept. 29, 2024: FSU Volleyball Claims Rivalry Win Over Miami in 5-Set Thriller

After dominating rival Miami across all sports last academic year, Florida State had to dig deep to take the first matchup of the 2024-25 year. On Wednesday night, FSU volleyball won the last two sets to escape with a thrilling 3-2 win in a top-25 matchup and the ACC opener for both schools.

Things looked bleak after the 18th-ranked Seminoles let a 5-point lead slip away in the third set. FSU rolled to a 25-18 victory in the fourth set before using a critical 5-0 run to pull away in the decisive fifth, 15-10. Khori Louis ended things with her career-high 20th kill.

Louis paced the Seminoles with five blocks. Audrey Koenig finished with a match-high 23 kills to go with 14 digs. Audrey Phelan led FSU with 29 assists. Flormarie Heredia Colon finished with 19 kills and 16 digs for No. 25 Miami.

With the win, FSU made it five straight over rival Miami and kicked off ACC play with a win. The teams were scheduled to meet again on Friday in Coral Gables. Following Hurricane Helene, the match was pushed back to Sunday.
