Seminole Sunday Sauce — Sept. 1, 2024: FSU Volleyball and Cross Country Open Season with Wins

For two Florida State teams, Friday brought an exciting start to the new season. FSU volleyball opened the Seminole Invitational with a 3-0 victory over South Florida. FSU cross country swept the UCF Invite in Orlando.

To open the cross country season, FSU took both the men’s and women’s races. The FSU men had the top three finishers and six of the top seven. Kidus Misgina took the individual title, followed by Ahmed Ibrahim and Zach Leachman.

For the FSU women, Lily Guinn claimed victory, followed by teammate Bieke Schipperen. The Seminoles had 10 of the top 14 finishers. FSU currently doesn’t have another meet scheduled until Sept. 27.

On the court, FSU volleyball swept South Florida to open the Seminole Invitational. After a competitive 25-22 first set, the Seminoles rolled in the final two sets to start 1-0.

Kyleene Filimaua paced FSU with 10 kills in the season-opening win. Audrey Koenig led the way with 12 digs. Loren Robertson finished with a team-high 16 assists.

FSU followed up its victory with another straight-set win over Saturday. The Seminoles moved to 2-0 with a 3-0 win over UC-Santa Barbara.

FSU seized control with a 31-29 victory in the second set. Taylor Head led FSU with 15 kills, followed by Louis’ 13 and Filimaua’s 11. Robertson led the way with 23 assists and nine digs.

The Seminoles will try to go a perfect 3-0 at the season-opening Seminole Invitational when it hosts Georgia on Sunday. FSU will hit the road on Friday for the first time when it heads to Auburn.
