Seminole Sunday Sauce — Aug. 18, 2024: No. 1 FSU Soccer Kicks Off Athletic Year with Shutout of South Florida

For reigning national champion Florida State soccer, the 2024 season began how 2023 ended — with a resounding victory.

The Seminoles opened the season on Thursday night with a 5-0 shutout at South Florida. Mimi Van Zanten scored the first goal of the season in the 25th minute and from there, the goals kept coming.

Jordynn Dudley finished with a goal and an assist in the victory. Taylor Huff added three assists.

Giana Riley, Marianyela Jimenez and Taylor Suarez also found the back of the net in the victory. Ran Iwai added an assist.

FSU dominated with 23 shots to just nine for the Bulls. Goalkeeper Addie Todd finished with three saves for the victorious Seminoles.

With the win, FSU ran its unbeaten streak to 24 matches. The shutout victory was its 19th in 28 matches dating back to the end of the 2022 season.

FSU will play its home opener on Sunday night against North Florida. Match time is set for 6 p.m. ET. It will air on ACC Network Extra.
