Seminole Sunday Sauce — July 7, 2024: Zae Thomas Makes History with FSU Commitment

Over the years, Florida State has made many student-athletes, alumni, and fans proud to be Seminoles. Last Sunday, however, history was made when 4-star defensive back Gregory Xavier “Zae” Thomas committed to play football at FSU.

When he officially signs, Thomas will become the first member of the Seminole Tribe of Florida ever to play for FSU on full scholarship. A 6-foot-2, 190-pound prospect from Fort Lauderdale, Thomas made his announcement at Seminole Hard Rock Casino in South Florida. He is ranked as the No. 290 overall prospect for 2025, per the 247Sports Composite rankings.

While Thomas is the first member of the tribe to play football at FSU on scholarship, he isn’t the first to don the garnet and gold. Wide receiver Justin Motlow played from 2014 to 2017. In a 77-6 win over Delaware State in 2017, Motlow became the first tribe member to score a touchdown for the Seminoles.

The addition of Thomas continued a hot recruiting stretch for FSU as he became the fifth blue-chip commitment in less than a week. Before the week was over, FSU added 4-star offensive lineman Peyton Joseph and 2026 defensive back Tedarius Hughes.

Ranked 67th per the Composite and last in the ACC just two weeks ago, FSU now has the No. 28 overall class and the fifth-best class in the ACC. With nine total commitments — all blue-chips — it has one of the highest player averages in the country.
