Seminole Sunday Sauce — June 30, 2024: FSU Finishes 12th in Director’s Cup

An outstanding year for Florida State across all sports has culminated in its best finish in the LEARFIELD Director's Cup standings in five years.

As a whole, FSU finished 12th in the standings that measure success across all sports. FSU’s athletic year was highlighted by the soccer program winning its fourth national championship in one of the greatest seasons in the sport’s history.

The Seminoles went undefeated at 22-0-1 with a thrilling draw at North Carolina serving as the only non-victory. Fourteen of FSU’s 22 wins, including five of its six NCAA Tournament wins, came by shutout. FSU capped its spectacular season with a 5-1 rout of Stanford for the 2023 national championship.

The victory helped ease the pain for FSU fans as it came one day after the 13-0 football program was snubbed by the College Football Playoff Selection Committee. Despite the snub, FSU football finished with its most wins and first ACC title in nine years.

FSU would also claim conference titles in soccer, men’s tennis, and beach volleyball. FSU men’s tennis won four matches in four days, including the last two over top-10 teams, to win its first ACC crown. FSU finished as ACC runner-up in baseball, softball, men’s indoor track and field and men’s golf.

The men’s golf program had its best season ever, finishing as national runner-up with a heartbreaking 3-2 loss to Auburn. FSU made the national semifinals in baseball, quarterfinals in beach volleyball as well as the round of 16 in softball and men’s tennis. The Seminoles also went a combined 22-7 against their two in-state rivals.
