Seminole Sunday Sauce — Sept. 18, 2022: FSU Football Banged Up After Solid Start

For the first time since 2015, Florida State football is 3-0 and 1-0 in ACC play. The Seminoles’ latest victory, however, came at a price.

In Friday’s 35-31 victory over Louisville, the Seminoles lost three key players, headlined by quarterback Jordan Travis. Also going out in the win were defensive end Jared Verse, the team’s leading sack man, and tackle Robert Scott.

Despite the injuries, FSU was able to rally to victory. Tate Rodemaker relieved Travis and tossed a pair of touchdowns to Johnny Wilson. Wilson had a monster night with nearly 150 yards receiving and the winning touchdown grab with less than eight minutes to play. Treshaun Ward powered the ground attack for FSU with 126 yards on 10 carries.

With defensive tackle Fabien Lovett already out, FSU did struggle defensively. The Seminoles allowed nearly 500 yards of offense and three total touchdowns to Louisville quarterback Malik Cunningham. Kevin Knowles’ last-minute interception ultimately sealed the win. Malcolm Ray, another defensive tackle, also went down with an injury in the victory.

The statuses of the injuries for FSU are currently unknown but will be something to monitor as the season goes on. Those to Travis and Verse both appeared to be in the knee area.

After playing Friday night, FSU will get one extra day of rest. The Seminoles will play their first ACC home game on Saturday against Boston College.
