Florida State lands another Power 5 transfer
Just eight days after their last transfer portal addition, the Seminoles add another arrow to their quiver in the shape of former Oregon running back Trey Benson.
Previous Stop: Oregon
Benson originally chose Oregon over programs such as Notre Dame, Penn State, North Carolina, Ole Miss, Louisville, Florida State, and others in the class of 2020. Benson missed the entirety of his first season in Eugene after suffering a major knee injury on Dec. 1, tearing his lateral meniscus, medial meniscus, medial collateral ligament, anterior cruciate ligament, and another tendon.
In his redshirt freshman season, Benson rushed 6 times for 22 yards and a touchdown in 10 games.
What does Benson add?
The 6-foot-1, 215-pound RB potentially adds a dimension of size and power to FSU’s run game that would be lacking in 2022 after the departure of Jashaun Corbin, as well as a strong presence in pass protection. This paired with a verified 4.49 laser-timed 40-yard dash, pre-injury, at The Opening New Orleans Regional in June of 2019, gives a glimpse at the high ceiling that Benson offers if he can stay healthy and prove to be fully healed after his knee injury.
Benson will be accompanied by fellow redshirt sophomores Treshaun Ward, Lawrence Toafili, Corey Wren, Ja’Khi Douglas, and redshirt Junior DJ Williams within the RB room.
