No. 7 Florida State soccer ran its winning streak to five on Thursday night with a convincing 5-1 win over Louisville.
Five different Seminoles found the back of the net in the victory. Jenna Nighswonger got the scoring started before adding three assists.
A penalty kick by Louisville’s Maisie Whitsett cut the FSU lead to 2-1 at the half. It took the Seminoles less than 15 minutes into the second half to seize control. Leilanni Nesbeth, Onyi Echegini and Clara Robbins all scored goals over that stretch. Each was assisted by Nighswonger.
Beata Olsson also scored for FSU. Heather Payne added two assists for the Seminoles while Nesbeth tallied one of her own.
The Seminoles dominated with 17 total shots to just four for the Cardinals. FSU also had five corner kicks to just one for Louisville.
Despite the loss, Louisville became the first team to score a goal against FSU since Auburn played the Seminoles to a 1-1 tie on Aug. 25. FSU improved to 6-0-2 and 2-0 in ACC play with Thursday’s win. It will remain home to take on Clemson on Sunday.
