For the fifth straight season, Florida State soccer is bound for the Elite Eight. The top-seeded Seminoles clinched the berth on Sunday with a 3-0 win over No. 4 seed Pittsburgh in Tallahassee.
The contest was less than two minutes old when Beata Olsson put the Seminoles ahead for good with her sixth goal of the season. That would account for all the first-half scoring, but the second half was less than two minutes old when Leilanni Nesbeth doubled the lead with her sixth of the year. Jody Brown turned it into a rout with a goal in the 57th minute.
Brown added an assist while Onyi Echegini tallied two in the dominating effort. The Seminoles outshot Pitt 18-7 and finished with 10 shots on frame to just two for the Panthers.
With the win, FSU moves on to the Elite Eight for the 17th time in program history. The Seminoles will take on Arkansas on Saturday for a spot in the College Cup. The Razorbacks beat Memphis on penalty kicks on Sunday night.
