Lead Story

Florida State women’s hoops used a strong finish on Wednesday night at the Donald L. Tucker Center to top rival Florida and remain undefeated, 92-77.

The Seminoles led by as many as 18 points in the first half and 48-36 at halftime. By the latter parts of the third quarter, however, Florida drew even at 61. FSU answered with a 22-3 run and never looked back.

FSU freshman guard Ta’Niya Latson continued her torrid start, tallying a game-high 32 points in the victory. Makayla Timpson and Mariana Valenzuela had big nights in the paint, each finishing with 13 points. Timpson led the Seminoles with nine rebounds and four blocks.

Jazmine Massengill and O’Mariah Gordon each added 12 points in the win. Massengill led FSU with five assists.

Florida held the edge on the glass and committed fewer turnovers, but the Seminoles shot a blistering 51% from the field, which was too much for the Gators to overcome. Kirsten Deans and Leilani Correa finished with 23 and 22 points, respectively, for Florida in the loss.

With the win, FSU moves to 4-0 on the season. The Seminoles will visit Houston on Saturday.
