The Daily Sauce — May 7, 2022: FSU Men’s Tennis Tops Georgia State to Advance

Florida State men’s tennis advanced to the round of 32 on Friday with a convincing 4-1 win over Georgia State to open the NCAA Tournament.

Loris Pourroy rallied from a first set loss to defeat Georgia State’s Andrei Duarte and clinch the match for the Seminoles, 1-6, 6-2, 6-2. After taking the doubles point, Andreja Petrovic and Joshua Dous Karpenschif gave the Seminoles a commanding 3-0 lead in Athens, Ga. with straight set victories.

Harvey Maughan picked up the only win for the Panthers. He topped FSU’s Richard Thongoana in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.

With the win, FSU improves to 17-10 on the season and will vie for a spot in the Sweet 16. The Seminoles will take on No. 11 national seed and regional host Georgia on Saturday. The Bulldogs topped Alabama State on Friday, 4-0.

FSU’s softball game with NC State on Friday night was suspended in the top of the sixth with the Seminoles leading 3-0. The game will resume at 1 p.m. ET on Saturday with Saturday’s scheduled contest to follow.

The winner of Saturday’s beach volleyball contest between FSU and USC will play the winner of Georgia State and UCLA for a spot in the national championship match.
