It’s Monday, Florida State fans.
As you get a start on a new week, see what’s in The Daily Sauce.
After breezing through the first two days of the Tallahassee Regional, No. 2 Florida State softball watched its 2022 season come to an abrupt halt. The Seminoles dropped back-to-back contests to Mississippi State on Sunday as the Bulldogs advanced to the NCAA Super Regional.
Mississippi State opened the day with a 5-0 victory. FSU managed just two hits off pitcher Aspen Wesley. Chloe Malau’ulu had two hits for the Bulldogs, who put the contest away with three runs in the sixth inning.
Things started well for FSU in the second game as a 2-run home run from Sydney Sherrill and an RBI double from Kaley Mudge helped the Seminoles race to an early 3-1 lead. FSU, however, failed to score after the second inning.
Mississippi State was able to go ahead for good with three runs during the fifth in an eventual 4-3 victory. After Shea Moreno cut the lead to one with an RBI single, Malau’ulu singled home two to put Mississippi State in front for good.
Down the stretch, FSU was the victim of some bad breaks. The Seminoles put together three hits in the fifth, but Devyn Flaherty was called out for leaving first base early. Mack Leonard opened the seventh with what appeared to be an infield single, but the call was overturned.
With the back-to-back losses, FSU finishes the season with a record of 54-7. Mississippi State will take on Arizona in a best-of-3 Super Regional.
