The Daily Sauce — May 22, 2022: FSU Softball Routs Bulls, One Win from Super Regionals

It’s Sunday, Florida State fans.

As you close out your weekend, see what’s in The Daily Sauce.

Lead Story

Weather delayed the start of Saturday’s game by more than two hours, but Mother Nature couldn’t stop the early onslaught from the Florida State softball offense. The No. 2 Seminoles scored seven runs in the first inning before blanking South Florida on the second day of the Tallahassee Regional, 8-0.

FSU needed just five innings to complete a run-rule victory for the second straight day. The Seminoles came up with six hits in the first inning. Mack Leonard and Josie Muffley each came up with 2-run doubles in the frame.

One day after no-hitting Howard, Kathryn Sandercock and Leonard combined to toss a 1-hit shutout. Alanah Rivera had the only hit of the game for South Florida. FSU’s only run after the first came in the fifth inning as Amaya Ross blasted a solo home run.

The victory puts FSU one win away from hosting a Super Regional. The Bulls would lose again later in the day to Mississippi State. FSU will have two chances to collect one win over the Bulldogs to advance.
