Florida State softball got off to the start it hoped for in the NCAA Tournament on Friday. The No. 2 seed Seminoles kicked off the Tallahassee Regional with an 8-0 victory over Howard that lasted just five innings.
Pitcher Danielle Watson allowed just a walk in the no-hit victory. Watson struck out five and faced the minimum. The lone baserunner for Howard, Camille Navarro, was picked off at first by catcher Michaela Edenfield shortly after.
FSU pushed across a run in the first on a bases-loaded walk but did score again until a 3-run fourth. FSU put the game away with four runs in the fifth.
The Seminoles managed just five hits, but drew six walks in the victory. Jahni Kerr finished with three RBIs while Chloe Culp added two. Eight different players scored a run.
With the win, FSU moves to the winner’s bracket of the Tallahassee Regional and will face South Florida on Saturday. The Bulls defeated Mississippi State on Friday, 4-0.
