The Daily Sauce — March 29, 2023: FSU Football’s McLendon to Hit Transfer Portal

Happy hump day, Florida State fans.

As your week hits its midway point, see what’s in The Daily Sauce.

Lead Story

Florida State football addressed the line of scrimmage this offseason via the transfer portal and recruiting. One familiar face, however, won’t likely be around for 2023.

According to multiple reports, defensive end Derrick McLendon will enter the transfer portal. A valuable depth piece during his time in Tallahassee, McLendon recorded 37 tackles, 3.5 sacks and five tackles for loss last season.

McLendon started 12 games for the Seminoles in 2022. He finishes his FSU career with seven sacks and 12.5 tackles for loss.

While the loss will hurt depth, FSU is in good shape at the position. Jared Verse was an All-ACC performer last season while Patrick Payton was ACC Defensive Rookie of the Year; both return. FSU also bulked up on the edge with the addition of South Carolina transfer Gilber Edmond.
