The Daily Sauce — March 27, 2023: FSU Softball Tops No. 14 Duke in Rubber Game, 7-3

It’s Monday, Florida State fans.

As you take on the day and a new week, see what’s in The Daily Sauce.

Lead Story

No. 6 Florida State softball used an early offensive explosion to take the rubber game of a 3-game series at No. 14 Duke on Sunday, 7-3.

Bouts with rain throughout the day ultimately force the contest to end in the sixth inning, but the Seminoles found the offense necessary early. FSU seized control early with some patient at-bats in the first inning to take a 3-0 lead.

After Hallie Wacaser singled home a run in the second, Josie Muffley tripled home two in the third. Duke was able to cut the lead in half with three runs in the fourth inning. Kaleigh Harding capped the scoring for FSU with a solo home run in the sixth.

Kathryn Sandercock allowed just three hits and one earned run in five innings of work while striking out four to pick up the win. Harding finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Gisele Tapia had the lone RBI for the Blue Devils in the loss.

With the win, FSU moved to 26-7 for the year and 5-1 in ACC play. The Seminoles will open a 3-game set with Georgia Tech on Friday.
