It’s March, Florida State fans.
As you settle in to the work week, see what’s in The Daily Sauce.
A 20-point performance and an improbable buzzer beater from Florida State hoops slasher Matthew Cleveland caught the eyes of the ACC this week.
For his efforts against Boston College and Virginia, Cleveland was named the conference’s Freshman of the Week. In two games this past week, Cleveland averaged 19 points and 5.5 rebounds.
Cleveland put up 18 points and three rebounds in last week’s 71-55 loss to Boston College. On Saturday in Charlottesville, he was even better.
Cleveland finished with 20 points and scored the final eight for FSU, including a 35-foot 3-pointer at the buzzer that lifted the Seminoles past Virginia, 64-63. For the season, the freshman from Atlanta is averaging 11.4 points and 4.7 rebounds. Only Caleb Mills averages more points per game for the Seminoles.
Cleveland will try to help FSU clinch a 17th straight winning season on Wednesday night when it hosts Notre Dame.
