The Daily Sauce — July 8, 2022: FSU Track and Field’s Cunningham Wins The Bowerman Fan Vote

It’s Friday, Florida State fans.

As the weekend nears, see what’s in The Daily Sauce.

Lead Story

Florida State track and field’s Trey Cunningham’s venture to become the first Seminole to win The Bowerman since 2011 is off to a strong start.

Although it counts for just a small portion of the total vote, Cunningham did win the fan vote for the award that recognizes the nation’s top track and field athlete. North Carolina A&T’s Randolph Ross, Jr. captured the USTFCCCA membership vote.

Cunningham captured the ACC and national championships in both the 60-meter indoor hurdles and 110-meter outdoor hurdles this past season. At the NCAA Outdoor Championships last month, he narrowly missed breaking the NCAA record in the 110-meter hurdles.

In addition to Cunningham and Ross, Arkansas’ Ayden Owens-Delerme is the other finalist. The Bowerman winner will be announced on Dec. 15. Ngoni Makusha, who claimed the honor in 2011, is FSU’s only other prior winner.
