The Daily Sauce — July 27, 2022: FSU Football Picked Fifth in ACC Atlantic

Happy hump day, Florida State fans.

Lead Story

One month separates us from the start of the 2022 season for Florida State football and big things are not expected — at least from the ACC media.

Fresh off a 5-7 season, the Seminoles were picked to finish fifth in the 7-team ACC Atlantic division. FSU, however, did receive two of a possible 164 first-place votes to not only win the division but the conference outright.

Finishing above FSU in the division were projected ACC champion Clemson, NC State, Wake Forest and Louisville. Those were the four ACC teams to defeat FSU last season as the Seminoles finished an even 4-4 in conference play. Rival Miami was picked to win the ACC Coastal.

Offensively, FSU returns virtually everyone with the exception of leading rusher Jashaun Corbin and tackle Devontay Love-Taylor. On the defensive side of the ball, Jermaine Johnson II and Keir Thomas leave huge voids, but FSU used the transfer portal to add defensive end Jared Verse and linebacker Tatum Bethune. Other players to watch this season are quarterback Jordan Travis and safety Jammie Robinson.

Coming off four straight losing seasons, FSU enters its third year under head coach Mike Norvell. The Seminoles will open the year at home against Duquesne on Aug. 27.
