The Daily Sauce — July 23, 2022: FSU’s McDonald Named to Mackey Award Watch List

It’s the weekend, Florida State fans.

As you execute your big plans, see what’s in The Daily Sauce.

Lead Story

Florida State tight end Camren McDonald had more receptions last season than any returning player for the Seminoles.

On Friday, McDonald was among 54 tight ends named to the John Mackey Award preseason watch list. The honor annually goes to the nation’s top tight end.

Last season, McDonald finished with 24 catches for 243 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Only running back Jashaun Corbin finished with more catches. Entering his fifth season on campus, McDonald could be in for a breakout campaign.

Nick O’Leary is the only FSU player ever to win the Mackey Trophy. He claimed the honor in 2014. McDonald is coming off the best season for an FSU tight end since 2018.
