The Daily Sauce — July 22, 2022: FSU Football Legend Corey Simon Joins Seminole Boosters

It’s Friday, Florida State fans.

As you start thinking about the weekend, see what’s in The Daily Sauce.

Lead Story

After an All-American collegiate career and a lengthy NFL career, Corey Simon is coming back to Florida State.

On Thursday, Simon was named the Director of Athlete Alumni Engagement and Development for Seminole Boosters. Simon will focus on developing relationships between boosters and athletes, according to a release.

A Consensus All-American defensive tackle in 1999 and a 2-time All-ACC performer, Simon was one of the best defensive players in FSU history. For his career, Simon recorded 193 total tackles, 44 for loss, 11 sacks, three forced fumbles and an interception. Simon’s 21 tackles for loss in 1999 — a ridiculous number for a defensive tackle — led the ACC.

Simon went on to spend eight years in the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles, Indianapolis Colts and Tennessee Titans. He was a Pro Bowl selection in 2003 as a member of the Eagles. Simon was inducted into the FSU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2010.

“It is a tremendous honor to return to the place it all began,” Simon said in a release. “The support and love I received from Nole fans during my time as a student-athlete and now as an alumnus cannot be overstated. I now have the responsibility and privilege to pay it forward with our current athletes and engage our former Noleblooded family.”
