The Daily Sauce — Jan. 9, 2022: FSU Hoops Holds Off Louisville, 79-70

It’s Sunday, Florida State fans.

Before you cap off your weekend, check out our daily rundown.

Lead Story

Louisville came to Tallahassee on Saturday night as one of three remaining unbeaten teams in ACC play. It left with a 79-70 loss to Florida State.

Caleb Mills scored 23 of his game-high 27 points to help FSU build a 50-40 halftime lead. The Cardinals would get as close as two in the second half, but a 9-2 FSU run that was highlighted by Matthew Cleveland’s 3-pointer with the shot clock winding down helped put the game away.

FSU shot 46% from the field, but was a dismal 17-for-28 from the foul line. In addition to Mills’ monster night, Cleveland added 17 points.

El Ellis led Louisville with 14 points. Samuell Williamson and Mason Faulkner added 13 and 12 points, respectively, in the loss.

With the win, FSU improved to 8-5 overall and evened its conference record at 2-2. With Louisville’s loss, Miami is the lone remaining undefeated team in ACC play. Fresh off a win at No. 2 Duke, the Hurricanes will visit Florida State on Tuesday night.
