The Daily Sauce — Jan. 26, 2022: FSU Softball Ranked in Preseason Top 10 in Multiple Polls

After finishing one victory shy of a second national championship, Florida State softball will begin the 2022 campaign ranked in the top 10 in two polls.

Lonni Alameda’s team is No. 5 in the preseason Softball America Poll. The Seminoles were one spot lower at No. 6 in the USA Softball Poll. The NFCA Coaches Poll will be released on Feb. 1.

Softball America also ranked four different FSU players in its preseason top 100. The group was headlined by pitcher Kathryn Sandercock at No. 20. Infielder Sydney Sherrill was ranked as the 30th-best player. Pitcher Danielle Watson and pitcher/first baseman Mack Leonard, an Illinois State transfer, were ranked No. 70 and 74, respectively.

FSU finished 49-13-1 last season before falling to Oklahoma in the decisive game of the Women’s College World Series. The Seminoles kick off the 2022 season on Feb. 11 against Mercer in the JoAnne Graf Classic.

FSU volleyball’s Morgan Chacon, Emma Clothier, Emery Dupes and Audrey Koenig were each recognized as All-ACC Academic team members.

FSU swimming and diving was recognized as a Scholar All-America team by CSCAA.

Ta’Niya Latson, an incoming freshman for FSU women’s hoops, is the 12th McDonald’s All-American in program history. The McDonald’s All-American Game takes place on March 29 in Chicago.

FSU football kicker Ryan Fitzgerald and offensive linemen Robert Scott Jr., Dillan Gibbons and Devontay Love-Taylor were all named to the All-ACC Academic team.
