Lead Story
Entering this past week, Florida State men’s basketball had yet to claim a road win. Now, it has won two straight away from home.
The Seminoles held off Pittsburgh on Saturday, 71-64. Darin Green Jr. paced the Seminoles with 24 points on 7-for-12 shooting, including 5-for-8 from deep.
After falling behind 15-5, FSU used a 34-12 spurt to take a 39-29 lead into the locker room. The second half was less than seven minutes old when the Panthers pulled back in front, but the Seminoles always had an answer. Back-to-back baskets by De’Ante Green with less than eight minutes to go ultimately put FSU ahead for good.
Jamarius Burton cut the lead to one for Pitt, but Green answered with a dagger from deep with less than two minutes to play to push the lead to 68-64. The Panthers failed to score again.
In addition to Green’s big day, Matthew Cleveland and Caleb Mills each added 11 points for the Seminoles. Burton led Pitt with 20 points. Blake Hinson added 16 in the loss.
With the win, FSU moves to 7-13 and 5-4 in ACC play. The Seminoles will return home on Tuesday for their first of two matchups with rival Miami.
