It’s Thursday, Florida State fans.
As you carry on with your week, see what’s in The Daily Sauce.
Lead Story
What had previously been reported has become official. On Wednesday, Florida State football announced Patrick Surtain Sr. as the new defensive backs coach.
A graduate of Southern Mississippi and a former 3-time Pro Bowl cornerback with the Miami Dolphins, Surtain has ties to South Florida. Surtain served as head coach of American Heritage School in Plantation from 2016 to 2021. He spent the past season as a defensive assistant with the Dolphins.
Surtain will replace Marcus Woodson, who was recently hired at Arkansas. As a professional player, Surtain spent 11 years in the NFL with the Dolphins and Kansas City Chiefs. He finished with career with 37 interceptions, 7.5 sacks, seven fumble recoveries and seven interceptions. Despite little experience as a collegiate coach, Surtain is regarded as a solid hire and is expected to help with FSU’s recruiting efforts in South Florida.
