Last season, Florida State men’s tennis upset Georgia in Athens to reach the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2009. On Sunday in Tallahassee, the opponent and the result were the same as the 16th-ranked Seminoles topped the No. 7 Bulldogs, 5-2.
FSU took the doubles point and proceeded to win four of the six singles matches. With a 3-2 lead, Youcef Rihane rallied to clinch the victory for the Seminoles with a 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 win over Georgia’s Trent Bryde.
Antoine Cornut-Chauvinc, Jamie Connel and Andreja Petrovic also picked up singles victories for FSU. Philip Henning and Miguel Perez Pena earned the two wins for the Bulldogs.
With the team victory, FSU moves to 3-0 on the young season. The Seminoles will remain home to take on Florida Atlantic on Saturday.
