It’s Thursday, Florida State fans.
As you try to kick off the month of December on the right foot, see what’s in The Daily Sauce.
Lead Story
Florida State football defensive end Patrick Payton burst onto the scene in 2022. People took notice.
On Wednesday, the redshirt freshman was named the ACC Defensive Rookie of the Year. A slender end from Miami, Payton tallied 29 total tackles, five for loss and four sacks this season. Only Jared Verse tallied more sacks for FSU. Payton also had a forced fumble.
Payton was a key piece for a defense that ranked in the top 20 nationally in total and scoring defense. The Seminoles also ranked in the top 20 in total sacks with 34.
Payton becomes the third FSU player to win ACC Defensive Rookie of the Year, which was introduced in 2007, and the first defensive lineman. Cornerbacks Xavier Rhodes (2010) and Ronald Darby (2012) are the two prior winners.
