Florida State volleyball opened the 2022 season on the right foot on Friday. The Seminoles overcame a first-set loss to top Illinois State in Cincinnati, 3-1.
After three competitive sets, the Seminoles cruised in the fourth to put the contest away. FSU led 21-4 at one point before closing with a 25-14 victory.
Illinois State finished with eight service aces, but FSU dominated in terms of attacking percentage with a .289 mark to just .136 for the Redbirds. Audrey Koenig led FSU with 12 kills while Audrey Rothman and Emily Ryan added 11 and 10, respectively. Rothman also led the Seminoles with 11 digs.
Aida Shadwald tied a match-high with 12 kills to lead Illinois State.
FSU will be back at it again on Saturday in Cincinnati when it takes on Dayton. FSU will look to start 2-0 for the first time since 2017.
