Tallahassee, FL – During the trying times of our beloved football team (currently weighing in at 1-4) what better way to soak up our sorrow than with the outstanding play coming from our Women’s Soccer team! Our girls come into Thursdays match with a 21 game win streak during the regular season, and haven’t lost a game since 2019. The Seminoles took to the field Thursday night for the annual Paint it Pink match at the Plex against Syracuse, sporting pink kits in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Smooth First Half
Florida State looked smooth during the first half, maintaining possession the majority of the time and not allowing a single shot. Amelia Horton was able to get the scoring started at the end of the first half off of a corner kick into a crowded box. The goal the first of her career!
Second Half Supremacy
After the second half kicked off, Clara Robbins started the onslaught of Florida State goals by shaking off a Syracuse defender and sneaking a ground shot through the legs of another defender right in the back corner of the goal. The goal her 5th as Robbins moves to 15 points on the season and continues to be a strong force in the Seminoles midfield this year.
One minute after an own goal at the 62nd minute, Jody Brown records her second assist of the game by putting a Cuse defender on ice skates before passing to an open Kirsten Pavlisko. Pavlisko fires a shot off the crossbar coming down for the fourth goal of the game. This ones worth watching twice.
As if four goals wasn’t enough, Maria Alagoa decides to tack another one on at the 85th minute, this one from outside the 18 yard box. The fourth goal on the year for Alagoa.
Only allowing one shot up during the entirety of the game, the Seminoles recorded their seventh shutout of the season. Now outshooting opponents 225-33 and outscoring opponents 43-6, the girls once again proved they are a force to be reckoned with on the field Thursday night. Women’s Soccer is giving us Florida State fans a reason to wake up in the morning, and it’s safe to say we are indeed a Fútbol School.
The girls look to keep rolling as they look to improve their 22-game win streak at home against Miami this Sunday at 12:00. Let’s Pack the Plex again!
