Linebacker Recruiting In The State of Georgia
Class of 2023 Whitefield Academy (Ga.) linebacker prospect Caleb LaVallee tripped down to Tallahassee on Saturday for his first unofficial visit of the spring.
The 6-foot-1, 215-pounder visited FSU once this past season for the NC State game, but today, he was able to return for a more intimate experience with the coaching staff and have his own questions answered.
“I got a lot of questions answered, and had a great time with my family,” said Lavallee regarding the visit.
“Is this a place that I could truly see myself being at and thriving at, and that answer is ‘yes,’ after spending all that time with the coaching staff,” said Lavallee regarding the questions he had in mind.
Relationship with Coach Shannon
Co-defensive coordinator/ linebackers coach Randy Shannon has consistently communicated with Lavallee in recent months and was able to spend time in-person with the Georgia native for the first time during the visit.
“I talked to Coach Shannon a lot (on the visit),” said Lavallee. “He likes me at any of the linebacker positions. He loves me, and we talk to each other about every other day.”
“I actually got to sit down and talk to him,” continued Lavallee. “He went over my film with me and just showed me little things and areas where I can improve on and it made me take a step back, like, ‘Wow, I can have this every day.’”
LaVallee also met with head coach Mike Norvell before departing Saturday afternoon.
“It was awesome,” explained LaVallee. “He harped on family a lot and what that truly means to him and how this program centers around that. He really spent time getting to know my family.”
What stood out most on the visit?
“The environment,” said LaVallee. “I love all the coaches, they preach all about family, and I think they (FSU) would be a great fit.”
LaVallee plans to visit Florida State again in March to observe practice. He intends to announce a list of his top schools in the summer and either commit to a program before his senior year begins, or he will wait until signing day to make his decision.
Where does Florida State stand as of now?
“I like (FSU) a lot,” revealed LaVallee. “They’re definitely one of those top schools that I am considering now, especially after this visit right here.”
