Four-star DL Will Norman Left with Strong Impression from FSU Staff on First Visit

Defensive Line Recruiting

Class of 2023 four-star defensive tackle prospect Will Norman planned to spend Saturday, the 5th, at LSU on an unofficial visit, but that has since changed due to the impression left on him by the Seminoles’ staff on Friday. The IMG Academy product will stay another day in Tallahassee to attend the Junior Day event on March 5.

The 6-foot-5, 290-pound interior pass-rusher decided to stop by Florida State on short notice to visit, where he was able to speak with the coaches and tour campus. This was Norman’s first-time visiting FSU.

“I was actually on my way to LSU, but I just had to stop by and see what the family (FSU) had to offer, and just see what it’s like,” explained Norman. “I’m just in the back yard of Florida State, so why not come check out what they had to offer.”

“It was a last-minute thing, but it turned out to be great. It went from last-minute to first minute.”

Setting FSU Apart

Norman holds offers from many of the nation’s top programs, including Texas A&M, Oklahoma, LSU, Michigan, Florida, among others, but explained how FSU set themself apart from the pack after his visit.

“These coaches hit me with a different perspective on college football and a different conversation,” said Norman. “They more so talked about outside the world of football. Not just talking about what I’ll produce in between the white lines, but they talked about how I’m going to live as a person here as a Florida State athlete, and just how it’s going to be off the field.”

Impression of Odell Haggins

Norman was able to speak to a handful of coaches during the visit, including head coach Mike Norvell, but he spent most of his time with director of high school relations Ryan Bartow and Interior defensive line coach Odell Haggins. Norman shared his impression of Haggins in particular.

“Knowing he is a great mind at what I want to be as a defensive tackle. He has coached over 30 players in the NFL. Just being able to relate to somebody like that and pick his brain every day and have him in your corner, that’s something you wish for.”

Overall Recruitment

Norman said there are no schools leading his recruitment as of now, and he plans to announce his college decision before his senior season.

Norman shared his general thoughts on the Seminoles within his recruitment after the visit.

“It is definitely a place I have to come back to. It’s also a place I know I have to consider, just knowing what they have to offer on the table and what they stand for as a program and a college. I like what they stand for and the history behind it. I like what they have to offer.”
