Seminole Sunday Sauce — Aug 6, 2023: FSU Football picked second in ACC

For the first time since Jimbo Fisher left Tallahassee for College Station, Florida State football is a popular pick to win the ACC. The ACC media members, however, still view Clemson as king of the conference.

FSU was picked to finish second behind only Clemson in a relatively close vote this past week. The Tigers received 103 of 175 first-place votes with FSU receiving 67. North Carolina (5) and NC State (1) were the only other schools to receive votes.

When it came to players on the preseason All-ACC team, FSU was again second to only Clemson. Running back Trey Benson, wide receiver Johnny Wilson, defensive end Jared Verse and cornerback Fentrell Cypress were selected from the Seminoles.

Although he did not land on the All-ACC team, quarterback Jordan Travis had the second-most votes for ACC Player of the Year behind only North Carolina’s Drake Maye. FSU is coming off a 10-3 season and No. 11 finish in the AP Poll in 2022. The Seminoles will begin the year in Orlando on Sept. 3 against LSU.
