Seminole Sunday Sauce — Aug. 20, 2023: FSU Soccer Kicks Off Athletics Year with Thrilling Win

When it comes to Florida State athletics, the games have begun.

No. 6 FSU soccer kicked off the 2023-24 athletics year on Thursday with a thrilling 2-1 win over Texas A&M in College Station. With the match knotted 1-1 for more than 45 minutes, Taylor Huff broke through in the 86th minute to lift the Seminoles to victory.

Prior to Huff’s game-winner, both goals came in the first half. Beata Olsson launched one from deep that was deflected and landed just beyond Texas A&M goalkeeper Kenna Caldwell’s reach.

The Aggies would draw even in the 40th minute as Sam Smith found the back of the net. Amelia Van Zanten, Heather Gilchrist and Ran Iwai recorded assists for FSU in the victory.

With the win, FSU is now 15-0-1 in its last 16 openers. The Seminoles will wrap up a 2-match road trip to the Lone Star State on Sunday as they take on No. 9 TCU.
