Seminole Sunday Sauce — Sept. 22, 2024: FSU Football Rallies Past Cal for First Win

It wasn’t pretty or easy, but Florida State football has its first win of 2024. The Seminoles rallied to beat California on Saturday night at Doak Campbell Stadium, 14-9.

After three field goals gave the Golden Bears the lead, DJ Uiagalelei’s 36-yard touchdown pass to Ja’Khi Douglas with 11:08 remaining put FSU ahead for good. The Seminoles found a way to win despite being outgained 410-284.

Douglas led FSU with 86 yards receiving while Lawrance Toafili added 80 yards rushing and the game’s first touchdown. Fernando Mendoza passed for 303 yards for Cal in the loss.

FSU finished with 12 tackles for loss. Patrick Payton finished with three sacks. Payton and Joshua Farmer each had 3.5 tackles for loss. Marvin Jones Jr. added two sacks and a forced fumble.

With the win, FSU moves to 1-3 and 1-2 in ACC play. The Seminoles will play their first true road game of the year on Saturday at SMU.
