Seminole Sunday Sauce — Dec. 10, 2023: FSU Soccer Blasts Stanford for Fourth National Championship

The pain of Florida State football being left out of the College Football Playoff hasn’t completely subsided yet, but FSU soccer did what it could to ease that pain. On Monday night in Cary, N.C., the top-ranked Seminoles completed an undefeated season and captured their fourth national championship with a 5-1 rout of previously undefeated Stanford.

FSU broke through with two goals 26 seconds apart in the 29th minute. After Jordynn Dudley scored on a penalty kick, Jody Brown found the back of the net to push the lead to 2-0.

Stanford became the only team to score a goal against FSU in the NCAA Tournament when Maya Doms cut the lead in half in the 52nd minute. Within 10 minutes, FSU grew its lead from 2-1 to 4-1.

Beata Olsson and Brown each scored to essentially put the contest out of reach. Onyi Echegini put the exclamation point on a 22-0-1 season with a goal in the 84th minute.

In addition to scoring a goal, Olsson added two assists. Taylor Huff, Echegini, Dudley and Mimi Van Zanten also added assists as the Seminoles claimed their first title under Brian Pensky. FSU dominated with 16 shots to just five for the Cardinal.

With four national titles — all within the last 10 years — FSU ranks second only to North Carolina for the most all-time. The Tar Heels were the only team to salvage a draw against FSU this season.
