DFNS Staff 2021 Football Predictions: Syracuse

The 2021 Season is here, and with it come staff predictions! Florida State versus Syracuse, who will win?

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: Florida State is in a must-win situation after losing this past weekend to the Louisville Cardinals. Yeah, we’ve seen this before? Alrighty then! FSU is in uncharted territory this 2021 season, having lost four straight games for the first time since the 1974 season. Mike Norvell has, incredibly, kept the 2022 recruiting class together to this point and has his team playing hard.

Still, the youth on the team, coupled with the lack of development from the veterans on the squad, is proving to be an inconsistent disaster so far. Will the ‘Noles pull things together against a not-that-great Syracuse squad?

Our staff has some thoughts.

Some Notes:

FSU has some players back, including Quarterback Jordan Travis, who has been practicing this past week with the team. It is not yet confirmed whether he will be playing behind McKenzie Milton, or sitting out this week, but it is reassuring he’s taking snaps under center again in practice. Additionally, Robert Scott and Maurice Smith were both practicing as well. There remains the possibility one, or both could return to the rotation against Syracuse. This would be a huge development for cohesion along the offensive line.

Syracuse has some drama in the quarterback room, with Tommy DeVito being benched against Liberty in favor of Garrett Shrader. Dino Babers has communicated that he will play whichever quarterback performs better in this week’s practice. Additionally, junior running back Jarveon Howard has entered the transfer portal and is no longer a part of the team.

Double Fries No Slaw Staff Predictions:

Prediction: TJ gives his thoughts at the 26:27 mark, see it here:

Score: 35-21, FSU

Prediction: Richie gives his thoughts at the 27:18 mark, see it here:

Score: 30-23, FSU

Prediction: “I’m staying optimistic, unlike your Twitter warriors. Look for continued success from the second half of the UL game and more Corbin.”

Score: 35-24, FSU

Prediction: “I’m simply not picking FSU again until they show they can win a game. I want it for these kids more than anything. You can tell they’re playing hard but it’s just night and day the difference in what we got so used to with Jimbo as far as in-game adjustments.”

Score: 23-51, Syr

Prediction: “I don’t think FSU is losing on Saturday. They just haven’t earned my confidence in picking them. So Syracuse it is.”

Score: 23-32, Syr

Score: 21-27, Syr

Prediction: “Mike’s on thin ice with much of the fan base, and I think he loses even more support here. Dino Babers, although handcuffed by a less talented roster, is a better coach, and will send the ‘Noles to a dreaded 0-5 start.”

Score: 27-28, Syr

Prediction: “Why not, right?”

Score: 17-14, FSU

Prediction: “Honestly I might look crazy but I’m saying FSU. I think we will keep the momentum from the end of the last game and take a win.”

Score: 27-24, FSU

Prediction: “How are we 4.5 point favorites, I’m gonna need to see a dub before I take the boys.”

Score: 20-35, Syr
